When patients ask “What products should I use for better oral health?”, dental practitioners should be able to provide evidence based answers! This course is designed to help dental practitioners update their patients with information on the latest therapeutic, non-prescription oral healthcare products as well as prescribed products. This program will also review periodontal considerations for implants.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand periodontal considerations for implants;
  • To understand the role of antimicrobial agents as adjuncts to periodontal therapy.

What products would you recommend for people who have a lot of wear on their teeth from grinding/clenching??

If they have wear on their teeth, the enamel would be thinner. Therefore, I would recommend that, at nite, they brush with a high fluoride containing product such as Prevident Plus or Prevident Booster since studies have shown that products with a high fluoride content can reminerize enamel and increase its hardness. However studies have not been done on people who brux but they have been done on patients with enamel erosion and shown some benefits for reminerlization. I would also suggest that the patient also be given a night guard if the patient does not already have one.

He has the aspirin/ibuprofen interaction exactly opposite. Please tell patients to take their aspirin at least 30 minutes before or 8 hours after the ibuprofen so they get the full anticoagulant effect. This could be a life and death matter for some people.
