This article will review the current research and recent evident on the use of fluorides in the prevention of dental caries.
Topics will include community water fluoridation, research and policies, available fluoride in dentifrices, fluoride varnish composition, use and recommendation and other fluoride containing dental products. The dental professional will be informed about new research and policies related to the use of fluoride for the prevention for dental caries.
Upon completion of reading these articles, the clinician will be able to:
- Be familiar with the current and proposed community water fluoridation recommendations in the United States
- Consider the amount and persistence of fluoride ion in the oral cavity during and after tooth brushing
- Evaluate the merits of use of fluoride releasing varnish in the prevention of dental caries.
