Diagnosing and Managing Dental Caries and Erosion in Children and Adolescents

Bernadette Drummond BDS, MS, PhD, FRACDS, FDSRCSEd

Early diagnosis of the two most common problems (dental caries and erosion) affecting children and adolescents is critically important to prevent or at least limit tooth surface loss.

This presentation will look at the risks that are known and at clinical diagnosis at the earliest stages possible.  It will also look at management of dental caries and dental erosion at different stages of severity concentrating on both the primary and young permanent teeth.  Prevention will look at materials and their success in decreasing the risk of caries and erosion.  Management will cover the use of sealing at different stages of dental caries as well as restorations that are appropriate for primary and young permanent teeth.
