The Balanced Environment: Assessing and Maintaining Dental Health

John C. Comisi DDS, MAGD

The infective process of dental decay has been a primary focus of the modern dental practice.

However, it often becomes a “one step forward, two steps back” game. Sports drinks, frequent snacking and even some over the available over the counter oral care products can contribute to the challenges found in the oral environment. What do we as dental professionals do to help our patients cope and manage this disease process?  What procedures, techniques and materials can we use the slow down the process and perhaps reverse it?

This presentation will explore the latest concepts of patient care including: cariology, preventive care, diagnostics, minimally invasive dentistry and how bioactive materials can and should be considered for use in your dental practice.

Participants will learn:

  • Understand the conditions needed in the oral cavity to help our patients achieve a balanced oral environment.
  • How to make your patients part of the solution to their oral care, not the problem.
  • Understand the remin-demin process of the oral cavity and caries progression.
  • Evaluate preventive care considerations and diagnostics that can help aid in caries detection and treatment.
