Supporting a Patient’s Smile Throughout Chemo and Radiation Therapy

According to the American Cancer Society, 1,688,780 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2017. With more and more of our patient’s facing a cancer diagnosis, collaboration with other health care providers throughout their treatment is essential. This course will review the oral manifestations of chemotherapy, radiation, and other forms of cancer treatment as well as review preventative therapies to support your patient’s oral health before, during and after treatment.

Learning objectives:

  • List the different oral side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and other cancer treatment therapies
  • Recognize the early stages of oral conditions resulting from cancer treatment
  • Describe preventive treatment for hard and soft tissue to prevent destruction of oral tissue
  • Identify resources for healthcare professionals in treating patients with cancer
