The first podcast addresses the history of fluorides and caries prevention and management, and the second podcast discusses the nonrestorative treatment of non-cavitated and cavitated caries lesions. The third podcast addresses water fluoridation, provides a recap on the mechanism of action of ingested fluoride, and then discusses controversies and findings related to fluorides. The fourth and final podcast consists of an interview with a pediatric dentist on his perspectives on fluoride for pediatric patients.
After listening to these podcasts, participants should be able to:
• Review the history of fluorides and current recommendations for caries prevention.
• Describe the currently recommended nonrestorative care of non-cavitated and cavitated caries lesions.
• Describe the mechanisms of action of fluoride from water fluoridation.
• Review controversies around water fluoridation and fluorides and provide an explanation and findings that address these.
