Changing how we engage our students in their learning can seem challenging. In this course you will hear how using active learning, flipped classrooms and team based learning will deepen your student’s knowledge of a subject and will translate to clinical settings in a more effective way.
Participants will learn:
- Explain basic educational concepts behind techniques of the flipped classroom concepts.
- Describe technique for redesigning course module as an active learning session that promotes critical thinking.
- Explain how an existing lecture can be converted to an interactive tutorial for pre-class study.

More courses with Ms. Jan MittchelDr. Jan K. Mitchell graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1979. She completed a two-year Comprehensive Dentistry Residency in the US Navy, twice receiving their Award for Clinical Excellence. She served on active duty for 26 years, including teaching at Bethesda, where her adjunct position was as one of the White House dentists. She is certified as a Master by the Academy of General Dentistry and is a Diplomate of both the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry and the American Board of Operative Dentistry, which she has served as President.
Currently Dr. Mitchell is an Associate Professor in Restorative Sciences, where she has been inducted into the Georgia Health Sciences Academy of Educators and is the 2015 recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Mitchell has published and lectures nationally on new concepts in caries, vital pulp therapy, dental materials, and treatment planning with risk assessment.
