In this webinar, information about fluoride and specifically self applied fluoride will be presented.
There will be a review of dental caries and the role of demineralization and remineralization in its development.
Participants will learn:
- Define dental caries and explain the role of demineralization and remineralization in its development.
- Describe the chemical and biological mechanisms by which fluoride helps prevent and control dental caries.
- Identify the different sources and delivery of self-applied methods of fluoride (e.g., water fluoridation, toothpaste, mouth rinses).
- Explain the concept of fluorapatite and how fluoride enhances enamel resistance to acid attack.
- Discuss the public health impact of fluoride, particularly the effectiveness of community water fluoridation in reducing caries prevalence.
- Recognize the appropriate use of fluoride across different age groups, including safe dosage to prevent dental fluorosis in children.
- Evaluate current evidence and recommendations from leading health organizations regarding fluoride use.
- Address common myths and concerns about fluoride, using evidence-based information.

Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She has presented at national and regional dental meetings and often gives CE lectures. She has received her DDS degree from the University of Athens School of Dentistry and her MS degree in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Dedicated to continuing education, she earned a Master’s in Education from the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, while teaching full-time. She currently serves as the Chair for Boston District Dental Society. Dr. Maseli is an active member of American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and currently serves as Chair-Elect for the Comprehensive Care and General Dentistry Section. She is recipient of the 2021 MDS 10 Under Ten award and the 2023 Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 award.
