No matter what we do in the office, our success is dependent on what our patients do outside of our office. Regular oral hygiene is key to oral health, yet sometimes it is a struggle. We want to emphasize a team approach to homecare, with the dental professional, the caregiver, and the patient all playing important roles. This webinar will discuss various workflow systems and a documentation system we have implemented. We may even touch on some we plan to explore in the future. We will share tools and technology that can make home hygiene less of a struggle with the ultimate goal of improving regular home hygiene for all patients, especially those who have disabilities. We then plan to conclude with a short guided oral hygiene demo and time for Q&A.

Participants will learn:

• Understand what guided oral hygiene and assisted oral hygiene are and will be able to give examples of when each can be useful.
• Be able to categorize patients utilizing the Your Special Smiles Oral Hygiene Ability Spectrum and they will know where to find the paperwork if they desire to use this system.
• Have seen a mock guided oral hygiene session.
• Be able to give at least two modifications that can help patients who lack cooperation with oral hygiene implementation.

Brooke Fukuoka, DMD, FSCD is a passionate speaker whose primary focus is improving oral health for patients who have special needs and geriatric patients who live in long-term care. She has practiced in a diverse array of settings and has started multiple programs to help expand access to care for her patients. She practices portable dentistry, teledentistry, interdisciplinary hospital dentistry. She has developed and oversees a guided oral hygiene/assisted oral hygiene program for two long term care facilities in her rural town of Jerome, ID. She is in the process of creating an Advanced Delivery Dental Clinic that will focus on special care dentistry with a local health center where she works as an employee three days per week.
