Anna Matthews RDH, MS; Associate Professor

Anna Matthews is an Associate Professor in the Dental Hygiene program at the New York City College of Technology / CUNY. She is a registered dental hygienist who graduated from the City Tech Dental Hygiene program in 2004. Before becoming a dental hygienist, Prof. Matthews earned her Doctorate in Dental Sciences at the Belarussian State Medical University in Minsk, Belarus. She immigrated to the US after completing her residency in pediatric dentistry in 2000. Following graduation from the City Tech Dental Hygiene Program, Prof. Matthews worked in the private dental practice and continued her education at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, where she earned a Master’s degree in Neuroscience and Developmental Disabilities in 2011. Prof. Matthews teaches Oral Anatomy, Pharmacology, and clinical dental hygiene. Her research interests include emerging issues in dentistry and dental hygiene, novel pharmacotherapies of medical and dental conditions, student diversity in health professions, and educational innovations/technology in the classroom. She presented her research at regional, national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Matthews is a member of the peer review panel for Dimensions of Dental Hygiene and she serves as New York State Dental Hygienists’ Association Vice President for Professional Development.
