Dr. Nathan Culmer PhD
Nathan Culmer, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medical Education in the College of Community Health Sciences at The University of Alabama where he also serves as Director of Academic Technologies and Faculty Development. His research focuses on faculty development, telemedicine and virtual delivery of healthcare, healthcare education, and integrated care. He has received federal funding on grants totaling over $3.5M from the National Institutes of Health through the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the Health Resources & Services Administration, and the US Department of Agriculture for his research in telemedicine, mental health, healthcare of underserved populations, healthcare education, and integrated healthcare. Approximately $2M of this funding supported the development of a rural ambulance-based telemedicine project, which is still underway. Dr. Culmer is an active member of several professional organizations including the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine and the Society for Education and Research in Connected Health. He oversees a research lab devoted to technology and education in healthcare.
