Dr. Scannapieco is Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Biology, School of Dental Medicine, State University of New York at Buffalo. He received the BS in Biology from the University of Connecticut in 1977, the MS in Biology from Northeastern University, the DMD from the University of Connecticut, and a Certificate in Periodontology and PhD in Oral Biology, both from the University at Buffalo.  He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Periodontology, has edited two issues of Dental Clinics of North America, serves on the editorial boards of Infection and Immunity and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, and has served as a referee for over 60 peer-reviewed scientific journals.

He is Treasurer of the American Association for Dental Research, and is an active member of the American Society for Microbiology, American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Periodontology. He practices periodontics, and is an active educator and mentor for graduate and dental students.  His research focuses on oral microbiology, molecular mechanisms of oral bacterial colonization, and the interface between oral and systemic health, especially the role of oral conditions in the process of respiratory infection.

David Reznik is a graduate of Emory College and Emory University’s School of Dentistry and is the Director of the Oral Health Center of Grady’s Infectious Disease Program, a clinic he founded over 29 years ago.  He also serves as Chief of the Dental Medicine Service for the Grady Health System.  Dr. Reznik is president and founder of the HIV Dental Alliance (HIVdent), a not-for-profit organization of concerned healthcare providers committed to assuring access to high quality oral health care services for people with HIV disease throughout the U.S.  Dr. Reznik has lectured and published extensively on HIV and oral health, infection control issues and more recently antibiotic stewardship. He has also provided technical assistance to oral health programs throughout the United States for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) grantees and serves as a clinical site visitor for HAB grantees. Ellen Karlin currently runs a successful virtual nutrition consulting service. She was a nutrition consultant to dental healthcare professionals in Owings Mills, Maryland and a nutrition consultant at the Comprehensive Asthma and Allergy Center for over 3 decades. Ellen holds a Master of Medical Science degree in nutrition education from Emory University. She became a fellow of the American Dietetic Association in 1999. Ellen is a spokesperson for the American Dairy Association North East and a nationally recognized speaker.
