Did you know your brain processes 11 million bits of information every second?Impressive, right? But here’s the catch—your conscious mind can only handle about 40 to 50 of those bits. The rest? That’s your unconscious mind running the show. And because of this, we’re all biased. Yes, everyone!
Implicit bias isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a hidden force that can create real challenges, especially in healthcare. Biases aren’t permanent. With self-awareness, intention, and the right training, they can be identified and reshaped. This course dives into the misunderstood world of implicit bias and offers a fresh perspective. We’ll uncover what’s going on in those unconscious corners of your mind and provide tools to not only recognize your biases but to turn them into opportunities for growth and positive change.
Participants will learn:
- Define implicit bias and explain its connection to the brain’s unconscious processing of information.
- Identify the most common forms of bias, including racial, gender, and age-related biases, and their effects on decision-making.
- Explore the impact of implicit bias on healthcare outcomes, particularly for minority populations.
- Develop strategies for recognizing and addressing personal biases to foster more equitable and inclusive patient care.
