Establishing consistent technical and cognitive approaches to teaching practices is critical to the success of dental hygiene students.

It is important for dental hygiene faculty to align their teaching practices to reduce the incidence of variance in student learning and to promote mastery of clinical skills. This course will explore the value of faculty calibration to achieve student learning objectives and overall program goals. A discussion of barriers to faculty calibration will be had. Attendees will learn the benefits of FEAR (feedback, evaluation, assessment, and remediation) to promote consistency in instruction and comprehension of skills. A review of preclinical concepts will conclude the course.

Participants will learn:

  • Realize the importance of faculty calibration for successful student learning outcomes
  • Identify barriers to successful calibration strategies
  • Explore and realize the significance of feedback, evaluation, assessment, and remediation in calibration exercises
