Caring for the whole patient: Primary health care activities in the dental office.

This course will review primary health care activities that can accomplished in the dental office. This expansion of the scope of dental practice takes advantage of persons seeking health care being in a health care setting and will review the types of evaluations and procedures that can be considered for dental patients. Further, regulatory, scope of practice, referral requirement and reimbursement issues will be discussed. The introduction of these activities into dental practice can improve both health and oral health outcomes.

Participants will learn:

  • Understand the principles behind this new practice paradigm for dental medicine.
  • Be familiar with the range of evaluations and procedures that can be performed in the dental office.
  • Be able to discuss the limitations and regulatory, scope of practice, referral and reimbursement issues that accompany this new practice activity.
